A Day of Service for the NEA community: a chance to help our colleagues

NEA and REPS (Roundtable for Early Professionals and Students) are excited to announce an opportunity this fall for NEA members to give back to the archival community.

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, volunteers will spend the day at the Brookline Historical Society (MA), Connecticut Historical Society (CT), or Norwich University (VT) assisting staff archivists with activities such as rehousing collections, arranging and describing historical materials, or transcribing correspondence. Details of each institution’s projects can be found on REPS website.

This is a chance to really reach out to our colleagues who need help creating access to collections.

Vote on a Bylaw Change

At the 2015 annual business meeting, NEA members will be asked to vote on three proposed amendments to the NEA bylaws. In general, the amendments proposed in 2015 are procedural in nature. They replace outdated language in regards to how NEA communicates amendments to our bylaws and how elections are conducted. With the methods of communication and voting now in use by NEA, the proposed changes seem warranted.

Coming this Fall: A Day of Service for the New England Archival Community

New England Archivists (NEA) and the NEA Roundtable for Early Professionals and Students (REPS) are excited to announce an opportunity this fall for NEA members to give back to the archival community. The New England Archivists (NEA) is pleased to announce our official Inclusion and Diversity Statement, adopted at the June 2014 NEA Board meeting. As the beginning of a concerted effort to increase diversity within our membership and to encourage members' efforts to improve the diversity of their collections and user communities. New England Archivists Launches Innovative Mentoring Program

New England Archivists (NEA) announces the NEA Mentoring Program to encourage and support professional growth at all stages of our members' careers. With interactions occurring in person and online, this innovative approach will create new opportunities for archivists to interact, share ideas, and expand professional networks beyond the Spring and Fall meetings. New England Archivists Establishes New Award for Audio/Visual Professional Development

New England Archivists (NEA) announces an exciting new professional development award. An anonymous donor was inspired to fund this new award after experiencing the dedication and enthusiasm of the Spring 2014 Meeting, held in Portsmouth, NH, in March. The Audio/Visual (A/V) Professional Development Award, a disbursement of up to $500, will be given annually for the next three years by NEA to promote increased advancement, education, and participation with this specialized area of the archives field. New England Archivists Announces Collaboration with Yale University Library

New England Archivists (NEA) is proud to announce our professional collaboration with Yale University Library to establish the Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies, a new scholarly publication in the field of archival science. The Journal will become a premiere resource for both new and seasoned professionals looking to publish cutting-edge research in the field of archives and Information sciences. New England Archivists Bring StoryCorps to Worcester

Worcester (MA), March 21-23, 2013: New England Archivists (NEA) will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the organization with a three-day meeting on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross. The meeting will offer a variety of special activities including sessions on regional collaborative projects, notable keynote speakers, and a partnership with local Worcester community groups to collect local oral histories through nationally recognized StoryCorps.

Regional Archivists Group Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Special Programs

Worcester (MA), March 21-23, 2013: New England Archivists (NEA) will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the organization with a special three-day meeting on the campus of the College of the Holy Cross. The program will feature a cross-section of subjects: DNA encoding for information storage, digital humanities, and Worcester history as told by its immigrant population in conjunction with the StoryCorps project.
